An epitome of courtesy and humility

I had the privilege of knowing him and receiving his affection and regard for nearly half a century. I came to know him when I joined Sri Partap College in Srinagar as a student in the forties and Prof. Pushp, a young man of deep dignity, came over to join the faculty. He was already a great scholar and widely respected. What was remarkable about him was that he insisted on spreading his knowledge to the younger people who felt drawn towards him. Not anywhere near his intellectual attainments, I must not write about his scholarship. But I cannot forget the deep care, affection and courtesy he showered on others.

We lost touch for many years. The last time I saw him was about two years ago tragically at the fu- neral of a close associate. I was deeply impressed by the fact that he had not with years lost his grace and kindness. I could not know that his own days were numbered. It is tragic that Prof. Pushp spent his last days away from the environment he loved and to which he gave so much of his care. As long as learning, courtesy and grace live in our country, Prof. Pushp will be remembered
