Sati Ded

 Sati Ded

G L Ticku

Some time back I had a chance to go through an article in Koshur Samachar of January 2001 written by Shri J.N. Garyali. I became quite happy as until then nobody had written or referred anything about this great saint of our times.

One thing that was not mentioned in the article was about the Nirvan Day of Sati Ded. In this connection I had also spoken to Pt. Bushan Lal Ji Shastri at the shop of Vijeshwar Panchang Talab Tilloo Jammu to include the name of Sati Ded also in the Jantri among other saints published annually but it never happened. It was perhaps because the people in general do not know about this revered saint and also the date of Nirvana of Sati Ded was not known to them. Anyway I here mention the approximate date of nirvana of Sati Ded in Bikrami Samvat which is 15-06-1990 corresponding to 1933 A.D (pandahim Tarik Sana namath) This was one of the verses prepared and sung at the time of her Nirvana. There were so many verses prepared and sung by people even after her Nirvana. Some of them I Quote here:--

1. Hai Batkoori Watanuk Lol Maa Yeyea. Maj Kashir Hai Gachi Lat-Pandahim Tarik, Sana Namath Tati Peth Lookav Yet Gach Monji

2. Padan Tal Bakhti Praran Aisai Sati Ded Gai Sorgwasi.

3. Batwar Aisai Zooni Pach Bah Dopnakh Aniv Sadh param Geeta Satzan panani Aamit Aisai.

4. Yeli Kadakh God Deni Sranas, Gashi Lal Vachi Vachi Dewan aos Panas.

5. Tarak Waziras Woth Dodh huh Oosh, Dek Dedi Karan Chui Tasli chi Roz Khosh.

Hundreds and thousands of people, men and women used to come to Sati Ded for Darshan etc. Which included among others, Master Shanker Koul, Shri D.N.Jallali. Pt. Shridhar Koul, Pt. Ved Lal Wazir, Pt. TC. Wazir Dr, Gash Lal and all others.

As far as Sati Ded is concerned she was the daughter of Tickus' of Shallakadal Srinagar and

not Karfalli Mohalla. I belong to Ticku family, to which she belonged. In fact she was my father's cousin and our house was just in front of Sati Ded's house. About miracles of the revered saint I cannot say much because she attained Nirvana in 1933, when I was at the age of 3 or 4 years. However, I have known about her through my mother or sisters. A few things from Dek Dedi. Faint idea about her Nirvana Day. I was sitting in the lap of my mother and watching what was happening. There seemed men, women children wearing different coloured clothes all-around on the windows, compound and galis as if there was a big function going on with people crying and weeping.

Sati Ded had named me Neel Kanth and oftenly speaking to my mother about me as Kanth Kaw.

Sati Ded used to give blessings to everybody near or dear. One thing I remember which I learnt through my elders was that my family won a court dispute after 14 years because of her blessings. My father whose name was Pt. Niranjan Nath went to court for hearing and in the midday Sati Ded called my mother whose name was Padmavati from her window and says" Padmani Padmani Asi Hai Chamov Saree Chai Atei, Oori Aasi Neri Pakan" (Padmani we will all take tea at your home because Niranjan Nath will be coming from the court. Soon after my father came bearing with smiles because the court decision had gone totally in his favour. Hence there was tremendous joy in our house. This was one of the miracles of the said Saint (Sati Ded) as our personal experience.
