Sumeer Chrungoo President Kashmir Samiti 2019

Dear Community Member,

Namaskar,

I want to thank Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, for having listened, intuitively, on September 21 last, in Houston, United States of America, the problems faced by the exiled community of Kashmiri Pandits. I feel grateful to him for his listening, in a sympathetic and empathetic manner the woes of our community. He was kind enough to say that he is aware of the difficulties being faced by us. He added that he would see to it that the community's difficulties are removed His views brought a cheer among the 17 representatives of the 50,000 members of the Kashmiri Pandit community, now living in America No Prime Minister has shown such sympathy for the KP community during the past 70 years

I want to request Shri Modi to continue to maintain the Houston spirit. That will help solve many of our problems I would, also, request him to have similar face-to-face discussions with the representatives of the KP community in India too He can ask representatives of the community to come to see him so that the issues are thrashed out in detail and solutions of a permanent nature are found In this connection he can seek the views of the Kashmiri Samiti Executive Council, too -- which is deeply involved in removing the sufferings of the exiled community for decades now.

Kashmir Samiti Delhi, which has been recognized by the Government of India, as the nodal agency for the community has been all through, providing support to the Government's constructive actions I want to assure Shri Modi that we wholeheartedly, support the Government's act of de tanging Article 370 and abrogation of article 35-A. For several decades, now, we have been demanding that these articles, which are of a temporary nature should be given permanent goodbye. I want to reassure him that in future too, we will support all such desired actions of the Government.

I want to reiterate that the defanging of the articles is the first important step taken by the Government. More needs to be done KSD has been pressing for three decades, now, that a piece of homeland be allocated in the Kashmir Valley in which this small, educated, peaceful, cultured, patnotic community, can pass its days, in a sense of security and in an administrative structure which is in keeping with the provisions of the Indian Constitution. In the absence of such a homeland, members of the community cannot dare go to the valley. They do not want to go there in insecure conditions because that will be sending goats to satisfy the requirements of the butchers.

It pained me to know that some Kashmiri Pandits are opposing the defanging of the temporary articles. They take the plea that this action will alienate the KP community from the majority community of Kashmir. I want to ask such Pandits to tell me if we have not, already, been alienated by the majority community. What more alienation is there left to happen? When most of the KP community families were forced to Meet the valley a few such families continued to live there. Later, the terrorists, in coordination with the majority community of the valley, managed to shoot dead 50 Pandit men, women and children in the Wandahama and Nadimarg villages. it brought a shiver in the spine of the KPs living there That the Many of them left the valley, like the KP families that left in 1990.

The few Kashmiri Pandits, who want to harm KP interests take their personal interests to be more important than those of the community. Otherwise, they would not dare to oppose the good work done by the Modi Government. It is as clear as the Sun that unless the KPs have a piece of land in the valley where they can live in peace and security, they cannot dare go there .

A prominent KP medical practitioner decided to continue staying in the valley despite the threats of the majority community that the area should be cleared of KPs. He served the majority community so well that they became thankful to him. Last year a delegation of the top leaders of the majority community went to see him. He became happy when they thanked him profusely for the service he had rendered to them during the last three decades Then after a few happy chitchats, they told him that they had an important mission in view for which they had come to see him They added that in recognition of his services, they wanted him to change his religion and then they would accord him a high position in their religious hierarchy. He was taken aghast

The few KPs, opposing the Modi Government's actions, are living in a fool's paradise In 1960, Shri Atal Behar Bajpai, the then opposition leader in Parliament, told the then Prime Minister Nehru to do away with the temporary articles relating to Jammu and Kashmir. Nehru replied Yeh gis gis kar aap hi khatam ho jayenge. That is These will die of their own accord by getting rubbed often, Shri Bajpai commented. No Sir These can cause the destruction of the Indian nation too. What Shri Bajpai said was likely to happen if the Modi Government had not taken action in earnest .

I request the black sheep members of my community to desist from their actions. They need to remember the slogan of the British residents, during the World War I am for Britain, whether it is right, or wrong In America, President Abraham Lincoln sacrificed his life so that his country could remain united and laws, based on justice, were followed throughout that country He was assassinated, but his death helped America remain one, united, nation Our black sheep Pandits need to take a lesson from such happenings I want to wish a Happy Diwali to the community members and their families.
