With terrorists trying to usurp peace in Rajouri and Poonch district of the Jammu division, the police have deployed a Special Operations Group (SOG) unit at Jaran Wali Gali in Mendhar of Poonch to deal with the menace.

Four Army soldiers were killed in an ambush by terrorists in Poonch on December 21. Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), recently inaugurated the newly established operational unit which will be headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (operations).

During the visit, the ADGP interacted with police personnel and checked the operational preparedness of the SOG unit. He also stressed upon establishing good police-public relations and collating information regarding the movement of terrorists. The ADGP also held discussions with Vinay Kumar, Poonch SSP, and other officials regarding the ongoing scenario. He stressed upon the need to keep a sharp look over each and every subversive activities happening in Poonch district.

He said constant surveillance was required on activities of all released, surrendered terrorists, OGWs, border guides and double agents present in the district.

“There is a need to establish better synergy and strengthen the border grid to foil the nefarious designs of anti-national elements and their mentors across the border,” the ADGP said.

The police and Army have started working on strengthening their intelligence network after setbacks last year which led to the killing of many soldiers by terrorists. The focus of the security forces has now shifted from the Valley to Rajouri and Poonch districts, where terrorism has revived.
