Date:- 29 Feb 2024

In the third such incident in Poonch district of the Jammu division this month, soldiers opened fire on a quadcopter which was trying to enter the Indian territory late on Tuesday evening. It was around 8 pm when the quadcopter entered the Krishna Ghati area in Mendhar. Soon after hearing the humming sound of the flying object, the soldiers shot at least two dozen shots into the air after which it went back to the Pakistan-occupied side of Poonch.

A search operation was immediately launched to check if the UAV had dropped narcotics or arms. While the terror groups drop arms to be used by terrorists operating on this side of the Line of Control (LoC), narcotics are dropped to be sold and generate money to fund terror. This is the third such incident in Poonch sector. At least four quadcopters had entered this side of the LoC in the district on February 16 in two different places.

The UAVs had entered from Baloni and Gulpur area in Poonch in the groups of two. On February 12, soldiers fired on a UAV in Mankote areas in Mendhar.

Meanwhile, the troops also opened fire after observing suspicious movement near the LoC in the Sarla area of the Poonch on Tuesday late evening. The area was searched and nothing was found. Terror groups in Pakistan for the past some years have been trying to create unrest in Rajouri and Poonch sectors. These groups have also attacked security forces.
