NIA arrests key associate of Red Fort bomber
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today arrested one of the key associates of the main accused, Dr Umar Nabi, in the Red Fort suicide attack and also detained several others for questioning. An NIA statement issued here said that continuing with its probe in the Red Fort area car bomb blast case, the agency arrested another key associate of the terrorist involved in the blast.
“Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, also a Kashmiri resident, was arrested from Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir by an NIA team that was in the Valley in the case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI,” the statement said.
The statement further said that the NIA investigations have revealed that Jasir had allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the deadly car bomb blast which killed 10 persons and left 32 persons injured.
“The accused, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district of J&K, was an active co-conspirator behind the attack and had worked closely with the terrorist, Umar un Nabi, to plan the terror carnage,” the statement said.
“NIA continues to explore various angles to unravel the conspiracy behind the bombing. Several teams of the anti-terror agency are pursuing multiple leads, and are conducting searches across states to identify every person involved in the terror attack,” the statement added.
An official said that the NIA assisted by J&K Police in a series of coordinated operations detained several persons in connection with Red Fort terror attack.
One of them is Sehran Ahmad Khan, son of Mehraj Ahmad Khan, a resident of Achabal, Anantnag. He was picked up by the NIA for questioning.
Zeeshan Qureshi, son of Nazar Ahmed Qureshi, a resident of Ishber, Brein, Nishat, was detained for questioning by JK Police in connection with the Red Fort terror blast. He is an employee of HDFC Bank Srinagar.
In the meantime, father of Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, Bilal Ahmad Wani, a dry-fruit seller from Wanpora, who poured petrol over himself to commit suicide, died in the hospital today.
The 50-year-old man was battling for his life after he set himself on fire on Sunday, distressed over the recent police detention of his son Jasir and brother in connection with the Red Fort blast case.
Wani’s 22-year-old son, Jasir Bilal, a student at GDC Levdora, was picked up by police five days ago, while his brother, Naveel Wani, was detained three days ago. Relatives said the detentions had pushed Bilal into severe anxiety, and he had repeatedly pleaded with authorities for permission to meet both detainees, a request he believed was being denied.
