To cut imports PM wants states to boost production

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the Central and state governments to jointly identify 100 products for domestic manufacturing to reduce import dependence and strengthen economic resilience in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat – developed India. Speaking at the national conference of Chief Secretaries, today, the PM urged the states to prepare a roadmap for creating at least one global-level tourist destination and nourishing an entire tourist ecosystem. India has a rich heritage and history to be among the top global tourist destinations. The three-day conference (December 26-28) was hosted in the national capital.

The PM emphasised the need to strengthen self-reliance, adding that India must pursue it with zero defect in products and minimal environmental impact, making the label ‘Made in India’ synonymous with quality and strengthen commitment to ‘zero effect, zero defect’.

The academia and industry need to work together to create high quality talent,” the PM said, adding that India would be launching the National Manufacturing Mission (NMM).

He asked every state to give top priority and create infrastructure to attract global companies. It included ‘ease of doing business’, especially with respect to land, utilities and social infrastructure. He further observed that Viksit Bharat is synonymous with quality and excellence and urged all stakeholders to move beyond average outcomes
