4 The True Meaning Of Spiritual Freedom
We are aware of political, econo-mic, military and even intellectual freedom. We understand at religious freedom is. But spiritual edom would mean the freedom from religious dogma. You may be lowing a particular religion in order remain disciplined in life, as the active of every religion is to make an Hividual organised. But the greatest allenge for the person is to free himself m any narrow thought that may be ginating indirectly while following igious guidelines. Particularly when ese principles are interpreted for the by those who lack depth orther derstanding of the context, there eater danger of being caught in a trap. How to remain religious, yet be ritually free? Combine both devotio yourself from all entanglements, even bondage of religion.We practise religion to remove our attachments but in the process if we pick up a heavier dose or a new set of burdens, then life willlead itself only to the darkness of greater intensity. Any idea oversimplified is susceptible to vulnerability: it lends itself to greater probability of being narrowly interpreted. The strife to spiritual freedom makes us aware and cautious of such petty thoughts, superstitions, wrongly construed ideas, and false beliefs which tie us to stereotypes and creates frag. mentation instead of releasing the mind to higher planes. The challenge is to remain religious yet spiritually free. The first principle to practise this is to forget that only my in time but they cannot be different ultimately. This belief develops again by combining knowledge with devotion. Only self teaching can inculcate this feeling in us-preaching is only suggestive; it only gives a direction to the mind; the home-work has to be done. The journey of life is indeed wonderful-it begins from what is domestic and leads to the universal. All of a sudden the universal cannot fall from the sky. The progress is gradual and maybe even the speaking tree. sluggish. But once the closed doors and windows open then there is a sudden break. Light enters from all outlets. The joy that arises in that state of vacuum is mahananda. Once one tastes it, the lingering effect remains in his life forever. In the material sphere no riches and even with all types of losses in material senseat times you geto see this indescribable composedness They have attained such a material (parasmani) which converts everythirinto gold the moment it contacts. In this state you do not have any specific sectarian feeling. It is almos tlike a ladder you utilise to go to the roof and once you are there you do noneed it anymore, as Ramakrishna sai You reacha stage which is beyond allgive and take, allthat is good or bad and all that has a limit. Into that mahasunya you get released to realisyour limitlessness. In his poem "Where the mind is without fear..." that is the type of (spiritual) freedom Tagore meant by concluding, "Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake."
