The greatest obstacle to excellence is youkan caddy once told a champion golfer, "There's a perfect shot waiting out there. All you have to do is get yourself out of the way." Set aside your selfishness, ego and small-mindedness. Perfection that is already within will emerge. The higher the ideal, the greater the potency, energy and power. Krishna dramatizes the concept of Yajna sacrifice in verse 10. He says, the Creator gave humans the gift of sacrifice and said, 'with this may you prosper. Let this be the Kamadhenu of your desires'. The ability to sacrifice is unique to human beings. Even to profit materially you have to sacrifice. Be it a sportsperson, actor, industrialist or scientist, sacrifice is essential to success. Sacrifice your lower desires for your own nobler one. Then all your desires get fulfilled. Kamadhenu is the mythological wish-fulfilling cow. Krishna says sacrifice is Kamadhenu! Chase after a thing, it eludes your grasp. Rise above desire and the object of desire comes to you. Perform miyate karma, obligatory action, free from attachment. Break free from the bondage of kama karma, desire-driven activity. When desire mounts and you can no longer fulfil them by ethical means you cross the line to nishiddha karma, prohibited action. Thus desire is your greatest enemy. It results in failure, and gives sorrow and stress. It shackles you and distorts your personality. When you are captivated by a larger goal, lower desires lose their grip on you. Grow out of physical desires and enjoy far more fulfilling pleasures at the emotional and intellectual levels Finally enter the realm of the Spirit. Then all desires vanish. You enjoy infinite Bliss. Krishna says there are two aspects perfect action-generating energy an preventing its dissipation. Energy is created by the intellect directing all actions to the ideal, mind surrenderirto the goal, and body acting dynamics This energy is conserved when the intellect directs the mind to present action without allowing it to meander into wasteful avenues of past worry, future anxiety and present excitements every action becomes perfect. The real purpose of action is to unlock the Self from the enveloping matter components. Maintain awareness of that magnificent, powerful yet invisible Force within you. Then everything you do will be awesome. This is skill in action.
